Let’s Play 50 Minutes!
February 15th, 2008 by FrankYep! That’s what the Florida Panthers should ask the NHL to do. Shorten their games to 50 minutes. This way they won’t be losing leads in the last few minutes of a game which ultimately reaches overtime, then the shoutout, and then they lose the game completely. Of the last 6 games that I have been to they have all ended up in either overtime or gone to the shootout. I haven’t seen a home win in months!
Yes I know, they still get a point. Big deal!
For whatever reason this has been a symptom with the Panthers for a very long time, kind of like a curse. Years ago I remember them losing a 4-1 lead to the New Jersy Devils in the 3rd period of a game which they ultimately lost. Then a home game against the Colorado Avalanche which I attended and watched them botch a 5-1 lead in a game that they “had” under control. So losing leads is nothing new to this team, although it might be new to these players. I have to wonder how this has really affected them.
There have been numerous excuses this year, like too many new players ( I don’t buy it), too many injuries (everyone has them), not getting the breaks (bad teams never do), and phantom penalties (can’t control that). The team must be suffering from some sort of disease, and there apparently is no medicine for it. All I know is that if they could have hung on in about 5 or 6 of the games that they have lost this season in the third period they would be first in their division in a playoff spot instead of trying to get into one.
Big weekend coming against Washington and Carolina. I feel as though the season is on the line. Please, can they put two wins together?
Richard Zednik update. Apparently Richard is recovering quite nicely. He asked if he could have some Buffalo Wings yesterday and a local restaurant brought some over for him and his family. That’s great to hear. While I think he’s probably done for the year, just knowing that he’s going to be ok is good enough for me.
Thanks for reading.
